It felt closer to a shop-floor walkthrough than a survey, which helped bridge my software brain to BIW realities. The section on the 3-2-1 locating principle, especially the clamp sequencing clip around 12:40, stuck; I could map it straight to arch diagrams I’ve used in prod. Mostly worked, though I wasn't sold on how lightly tolerance stack-up got treated, and I wished there was more on sensor feedback loops. I wrapped up with notes that look suspiciously like a PR checklist for fixture changes.

Nice to see a course that explains the why behind BIW fixtures, not just the steps. The section on the 3-2-1 locating principle, especially the slide showing pin tolerance stack-up affecting door gap, stuck with me and mapped cleanly to fixture arch decisions. As a grad, connecting that to shop-floor obs and how changes hit prod RPS made it click; the clamp sequencing example felt like reading a careful PR. mostly wished there was more on k8s-style change management for fixture revisions, but it didn't talk down.

Questions and Answers

A: The 3-2-1 locating logic breaks once compliance exceeds a few tenths under weld load. ISO 1101 is about functional relationships, not just geometry, and a floating arm shifts under gun force even if the drawing tolerance looks fine.

A: Once spatter layers reach roughly 0.2–0.3 mm, operators scrape them off, and that repeated removal drives adhesive wear. The others exist, but they don’t move the pin location fast enough to blow Cp/Cpk.

A: With ±0.8 mm variation, you need constraint without over-constraint. One round plus one diamond manages 4 DOF while letting thermal strain bleed off instead of storing it until gun release.

A: Flatness and level within ~0.1 mm/m set the reference. Pin true position comes next. Clamp repeatability only matters once the datums are real; reversing the order hides root cause.
