PMP - Project Management Professional Training

A lot of PM training feels abstract; this mostly reads like plans I’ve actually had to defend in prod. The framing kept bouncing between old-school process groups and how work shows up now, which helped translate arch decisions into schedule and risk terms without pretending we’re not shipping weekly. The moment that stuck was the Critical Path Method exercise where float gets recalculated after a scope change and a mock CCB review; it felt like reopening a PR after infra constraints moved and watching the timeline slip in real time. Mapping stakeholder comms to modern obs and CI cadence made it easier to square PMP language with how teams run k8s and chase RPS targets—rarely pretty, usually workable. wasn’t sold on the heavy formula drill sections; I wished there was more on using those numbers during messy replans instead of exam framing. I’ve been around long enough to tell when material respects how work actually happens.

The Earned Value Management walkthrough in the Schedule chapter, tying CPI/SPI to a slipping vendor milestone, stuck with me and maps cleanly to how I track delivery across repos and PRs. I wasn't sold on the ITTO memorization focus and wished there was more on running a Change Control Board in messy orgs. The framing around common failure modes—scope creep, handoffs, late risk surfacing—made the time between meetings count.
