Why enroll

Participants join the Basic Reservoir Management Course to gain a foundational understanding of reservoir management, from team collaboration to effective oilfield development. This course provides essential knowledge on oil recovery techniques, reservoir and production monitoring, and enhanced oil recovery (EOR), equipping participants to make informed decisions that maximize reservoir performance. With practical insights and industry-recognized certification, this course enhances participants' ability to optimize production, forecast outputs, and contribute effectively to reservoir management teams.

Is this course for you?

You should take this if

  • You work in Oil & Gas
  • You're a Petroleum professional
  • You prefer self-paced learning you can revisit

You should skip if

  • You need a different specialisation outside Petroleum
  • You need live interaction with an instructor

Course details

Reservoir Management’s Prime Objective, the economic optimization of oil and gas recovery:

– Identifying and defining all individual reservoirs in a particular field and their physical properties

– Deducing past and predict future reservoir performance

– Minimizing drilling of unnecessary wells

– Defining and modifying, as required, wellbore and surface facilities

– Initiating operating controls at the proper time

– Considering all pertinent economic, environmental and legal factors

Questions and Answers

Q: You're sanity-checking a junior's spreadsheet and you Google "calculate OOIP from porosity net pay and area". Given a reservoir with area = 640 acres, net pay = 50 ft, average porosity = 18%, and initial oil saturation = 75%, what is the OOIP using a formation volume factor Bo = 1.25 rb/STB?

A: Option A walks the full chain: 640 acres × 50 ft gives 32,000 acre-ft. Multiply by porosity and So, convert acre-ft to reservoir barrels, then divide by Bo to get stock tank barrels. Option B sounds tempting because porosity feels like a volumetric shrinkage term, but Bo never cancels; dropping it inflates reserves. Option C undercuts itself by swapping net for gross pay; that’s conservative language masking a unit mistake. Option D flips Bo the wrong way around, a classic phase-basis error that quietly overstates OOIP.
