Product Design and Development – Course Description
Product Design and Development focuses on the systematic process of transforming customer needs and market opportunities into successful, manufacturable products. The course integrates principles of design thinking, engineering design, materials selection, and manufacturing processes to guide learners from concept generation through detailed design, prototyping, testing, and product launch. Emphasis is placed on balancing functionality, aesthetics, cost, sustainability, and reliability throughout the product life cycle.
Participants are introduced to key methodologies such as user requirement analysis, concept screening and selection, CAD-based design, design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA), rapid prototyping, and validation techniques. Through practical examples and case studies, the course demonstrates how cross-functional collaboration, innovation, and structured design processes lead to competitive, high-quality products. This course builds a strong foundation for careers in product engineering, industrial design, R&D, and innovation management.
