Questions and Answers

Q: You're pricing an early FEED separator package and you google "API 610 vs vertical can pump cost estimation for EPC". Duty is 450 m3/h hydrocarbon condensate, 6 barg suction, 65°C, no solids. Brownfield plot space is tight. From a cost-estimation standpoint aligned with likely design freeze, what pump selection is the safest assumption to carry forward?

A: OH2 looks boring, and that's why it survives audit. It's the default for this duty range and keeps installation factors predictable. VS1 tempts you because of plot space and NPSH margin, but the civil can, pit, and alignment scope swing installed cost hard at this estimate class. Mag drive sounds cheap until you load NACE metallurgy, bearing cooling, and spares philosophy; seal removal doesn't offset that here. ANSI B73.1 shows up in real plants, but importing it into an API-governed facility triggers MOC, vendor deviations, and higher contingency than the unit rate suggests.
