Course details

This comprehensive course is designed to provide you with a solid foundation in the principles and practices of Directional Drilling, a critical technique in the oil and gas industry. In addition to vertical drilling, most oil & gas wells use some form of deviated drilling methods which enable to precisely control the direction and angle of the drilling path to optimize access to underground hydrocarbon reservoirs. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with industry experts and gain practical insights through examples.

Join us in this exciting journey to get introduced to Directional Drilling. Equip yourself with the knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the oil and gas industry’s ever-evolving landscape. Enroll today and take the first step towards a successful career in Directional Drilling!

Questions and Answers

Q: You're sanity-checking a well plan and Google keeps throwing up 'estimate dogleg severity from build rate directional drilling'. A 12-1/4" hole is planned to build angle at 3° per 30 m. Ignoring minor survey error, what dogleg severity should you expect in °/30 m?

A: A build rate stated in degrees per 30 m is already a curvature metric when azimuth is steady. Option B sounds reasonable if you're mixing up inclination change per joint with spatial curvature, but that drops a factor of three. Option C is a trap from horizontal turn calculations where azimuth and inclination both change. Option D imports BHA stiffness into what is a purely geometric check; stiffness affects achievability, not how dogleg severity is defined.
