Course details

This course is designed mainly for postgraduate (PG) students who are studying Power Electronics, Power Systems, and Control Systems. It is also useful for anyone who wants to understand how modern electrical grids are evolving with renewable energy.The course starts by explaining the basic ideas of microgrids in a very clear and simple manner. Students will learn what a microgrid is, why it is needed, and how it is different from the traditional centralized power grid. The course also explains the main components of a microgrid, such as distributed generation sources (solar, wind, batteries), power electronic converters, energy storage systems, and loads.Different types of microgrids—AC microgrids, DC microgrids, and hybrid microgrids—are discussed, along with their advantages and real-world applications. Special emphasis is given to DC microgrids, including their structure, operating principles, and why they are becoming popular in renewable energy systems, electric vehicles, data centers, and smart buildings.
Overall, this course provides a strong foundation for students and researchers who want to work in the fast-growing and emerging field of renewable energy and smart power systems, especially those planning to do research or higher studies in microgrid technologies.
